The
Bowen Technique
The
Bowen Technique involves a rolling manipulation of key points
to stimulate energy flow using only light touches, normally
through light clothing. The practitioner may stimulate several
points at once, identifying areas of blockage and release.
This can lead to a range of sensations such as tingling, change
of temperature or even pulsing and it is often described as
energy movement but actually has a sound physiological basis.
Through increasing sensory awareness the moves tap into the
body’s ability to self regulate which, in turn, can stimulate
the body to heal itself.
A typical
session takes place over 30 to 45 minutes, with breaks during
the session to allow the treatment to be assimilated. Sessions
are usually part of a series of three to six sessions, beginning
with general stress points such as the back and neck,
before moving on to areas specific to the person being treated.
The Bowen Technique can form part of a regular wellness programme
or be used as a specific treatment eg shoulder, knee, and back
problems. Long term studies of the Bowen Technique have reported
that it is helpful to relieve upper respiratory problems, kidney
dysfunction and edema, any form of accidental injury and many
other conditions.
