The Feldenkrais Method (Practitioner Training NY 1991 - 1994) Barbara is fascinated by the process of how we learn to learn, the incredible work of
Moshe Feldenkrais has been an inspiration to her. Accepting that we have so much unrealized potential enables us to explore
possibilities in our lives way beyond our imaginings. Barbara believes that the more challenged we are, the greater our opportunities
are to grow. The Feldenkrais Method provides a modern-day, practical
programme for a healthy mind in a healthy body. Here is a way for people of every age to learn to move freely and comfortably
whatever their condition. The Feldenkrais Method offers two approaches to wellness, so that each person can choose the method
most suitable to their needs. Both approaches can be used by people of all ages and are safe when used alongside orthodox
treatment.

Improvement is quickly made using Functional Integration which is the hands-on,
one to one approach, tailored to the needs of the individual. Comfortable loose clothing needs to be worn. Most sessions take
place whilst lying on a specially designed table but can take place sitting in a chair or standing up. The Awareness Through Movement Classes are a group activity. Each class
is different, exploring some particular movement theme or region of the body. The practitioner talks the class through movement
sequences which take place either sitting down, standing up or lying on a mat on the floor. You learn to listen to your body
and discover how you create your movements, developing them to fit your present life style. You learn how to be pain free
in your everyday life and how to move in a comfortable and graceful way.

"Feldenkrais
represents a revolution in human health. Through this method we can learn to improve our living circumstances not only physically
but also emotionally, intellectually and spiritually." -- Smithsonian Magazine "I recommend The Feldenkrais Method to patients whose movement has been restricted by injury,
cerebral palsy, stroke, fibromyalgia, or chronic pain. I find it to be much more useful than standard physical therapy. I
also believe that the Feldenkrais Method can help all of us feel more comfortable in our bodies." -- Andrew Weil,
M.D., author of 'Spontaneous Healing' "The exercises
are so simple and so ingenious...It is so clever to develop the body by making the mind and senses become aware of each side
of the body separately. It increases the subtlety of sensation." --Yehudi Menuhin, concert violinist "What I'm after isn't flexible bodies but flexible brains."
-- Moshe Feldenkrais
Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc. (1904-1984), was a distinguished scientist, physicist and engineer. He earned his D.Sc.
in Physics from the Sorbonne and was a close associate of Nobel Prize Laureate Frederic Joliot-Curie at the Curie Institute
in Paris, where they conducted research together. He was also a respected Judo instructor and author of many books on the
subject. Living in England in the 1940s, Feldenkrais found himself unable to walk after suffering a serious knee injury. He
began an intense exploration into the relationship between bodily movement and healing, feeling, thinking, and learning. As
a result, he restored his ability to walk and made revolutionary discoveries culminating in the development of the method
that bears his name.
