Inclusive
Learning Support Programmes
Dyslexia
Programme Overview
Inclusive
education enables those offering support, or working within the support
framework greater flexibility in tailoring the curriculum to the individual
needs of the student. This is particularly significant for students
with literacy difficulties of a dyslexic nature. It is often difficult
for the student to define their needs in order to access the support
they need to fully access the curriculum.
Students
need to learn strategies to:
Build upon their
strengths
Improve their self-image as learners
Identify the areas where they need support on a day to day basis
Be actively involved in formulating their own learning programme
Many of the
failures dyslexic students experience are due to:
Negative
patterning
Poor self image as learners
Sense of being different from their classmates
To
enable the student to identify their strengths and areas of concern
requires careful observation and dedicated listening skills. During
assessment tasks are set to specifically identify the particular learning
formula the individual is working with. A detailed report setting out
suggestions for support at home and school to enable the students progress.
A
learning programme specific to the needs of the individual is set up
in units of six visits of 2 hours a total of 12 hours over 3 weeks.
The programme is reviewed after the 6 sessions and if necessary the
next programme of intensive learning is set up to offer further support.
